Which Outlook add-in do I have?

Send It Secure works with Outlook through two different add-ins. Knowing which one you have makes it easier to set up, use, and troubleshoot. Here's how to tell them apart.

The two add-ins

  • Protected Trust COM add-in (classic): a Windows desktop add-in — technically a COM add-in — that installs with Send It Secure for Windows. It adds the Protected Trust icon to the Outlook ribbon and runs only in Classic Outlook on Windows. You'll find it under File > Options > Add-ins > Manage COM Add-ins.
  • Send It Secure Outlook add-in (new): a modern Microsoft Office add-in — technically a web add-in (built on web technology) — that you install from Microsoft AppSource. Because it's a web add-in, one add-in works across the New Outlook, Classic Outlook, Outlook for Mac, Outlook on the web, and Outlook.com.

How to tell which you have

  • It's the Protected Trust COM add-in if: you see the Protected Trust icon on the Outlook ribbon, and it appears under File > Options > COM Add-ins. (This exists only in Classic Outlook on Windows.)
  • It's the Send It Secure add-in if: it's the newer web add-in that shows the Send It Secure icon, that you install from Microsoft AppSource, or by adding the app. It also works in the New Outlook, on Mac, on the web, and with Outlook.com.
