Which version of Outlook do I have?

The New Outlook and Classic Outlook look and work a little differently. Knowing which one you have makes it easier to set up or troubleshoot the Send It Secure add-in. Use the checks below to tell them apart.

Quick tells

• Classic Outlook: a full ribbon with the File tab — File > Options includes Add-ins and Manage COM Add-ins.
• New Outlook: a simplified interface with a Settings gear. The File menu is missing, or opens Settings (File > Settings) rather than the classic Options.

Surest test: if File > Options includes Manage COM Add-ins, you're on Classic Outlook. If it doesn't — you see a Settings gear instead — you're on the New Outlook.

The "New Outlook" toggle (if your version shows one)

Some versions of Outlook show a toggle in the top-right corner — but not all do, so use it only as a secondary clue:

• A New Outlook toggle switched On → New Outlook.
• A "Try the new Outlook" toggle switched Off → Classic Outlook (turning it on switches you to the New Outlook).

Why it matters for Send It Secure

The new Send It Secure Outlook add-in (a Microsoft Office web add-in from AppSource) works in both the New Outlook and Classic Outlook — and even with Outlook.com. The older Protected Trust COM add-in works only in Classic Outlook.
