Why is my recipient being prompted for a username and password?

You may have noticed that some recipients of your secure messages are asked to log in with a username and password, while others aren’t. Here’s why this happens.

If a recipient is prompted for a username and password, it means they’re a registered Send It Secure user. They could have:

  • A free Send It Secure account, or
  • An account through an organization with a Send It Secure business subscription.

When sending to a registered user, you won’t need to specify an authentication method. The message remains fully secure, and the recipient will use their own Send It Secure credentials to access it, rather than an authentication method you select.
